Andersen Racing's Dempsey Posts
Third Star Mazda Victory in a Row
Saturday at Mosport
BOWANVILLE, Ontario, Canada, Aug. 23 - Andersen Racing's Peter Dempsey posted
his third consecutive victory in the Star Mazda Championship presented by
Goodyear by winning Round 8 Saturday at Mosport International Raceway, while one
of his teammates, Tom Gladdis, placed third.
Dempsey, of Ashbourne, County Meath, Ireland, started third in the 22-car
field in his No. 21, which is sponsored by LotusWorks, Center Jewellers.ie,
Quayside.ie, Motorsport Ireland, Allied Interior Products and Trojan Complete IT
Solutions. He took the lead from polesitter John Edwards on lap seven, right
after he set the fastest lap of the race on lap six with a 1:16.942 (115.053
miles per hour).
At that point a full-course yellow waved, with Dempsey leading over Edwards,
Joel Miller, and two more Andersen Racing drivers: point leader Charles Hall
of Sheffield, England and Gladdis, of the Isle of Wight and Gibraltar. Gladdis
had started fourth, while Hall took the green in fifth place.
Hall was involved in a scuffle shortly after the restart that forced him to
make a pitstop with his car, which is sponsored by Blimpie, AccentBanking.com,
Pardoes Solicitors and Allied Interior Products. He lost a lap but returned
to the fray to place 19th, slipping to fourth in the point standings.
Gladdis, whose No. 5 touts Marrache & Co., persevered to finish third behind
Dempsey and Miller and give Andersen Racing the majority of the podium
positions. A full-course yellow for a car off course on lap 12 complicated by oil on
the track caused the event to end under yellow after 20 laps were completed
within its 45-minute allotted time span.
Andersen Racing's Natalia Kowalska of Biesiekierz, West Pomeranian
Voivodeship, Poland came from the rear to finish tenth with her car, which is sponsored
by Natan Developers. A fifth Andersen Racing driver entered in the event,
Richard Kent of Olney, England, didn't start the race due to engine problems.
According to the series, the Mosport Star Mazda race is scheduled to be
broadcast on SPEED at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, Oct. 12. More information can
be found on the series' Web site at starmazda.com.
Unofficially Joel Miller now has the overall point lead by a single point
over Dempsey. Alex Ardoin, Charles Hall, John Edwards and Tom Gladdis follow.
Each driver's best 11 finishes count for the championship, however. With
drops, Dempsey is on top by two points over Miller, followed by Edwards, Gladdis
and Hall. Andersen Racing leads the team point standings with 256 points to JDC
Motorsports' 187.
A doubleheader at the brand-new New Jersey Motorsports Park Sept. 13-14, a
race at Road Atlanta Oct. 3 and the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
on Oct. 18 are next on 2008 schedule.
Andersen Racing is sponsored by Allied Building Products Corp. It is the
official development team of Rahal Letterman Racing. For more information see

Some post-race quotes follow:
Peter Dempsey: "Three in a row! I want to thank Andersen Racing, my s
ponsors, and the companies that make the series happen, Mazda and Goodyear.
"Edwards made a slight mistake in Turn 5 that allowed me to get close, and
then I got him in Turn 8. Then when we got back to the start/finish line there
was a full-course yellow.
"On the restart I was able to keep ahead of him. I extended my lead and then
another full-course yellow came out, and it ended under yellow.
"I wasn't expecting to win today; I thought I'd probably get fourth. I want
to give a huge thank you to everyone who helped."
Natalia Kowalska: "I actually had to start 23rd because I crashed in
qualifying, and had to change more than one tire. I overtook three or four cars on
the first lap. If it wasn't for the long full-course yellow, I think we had a
top-six car at least.
"It's my first top-10 finish in the series, and it was a good race for me.
We did a good job. I had a new engineer this weekend, Reme Lanteigne, and we
worked together well. I want to give a big thank you to the whole team. They
are awesome."
Charles Hall: "We got up to third. On the restart we were fourth, and then
I'm not sure exactly what happened. I was running close with Joel Miller and
John Edwards. My car had a bad understeer, and I went straight off. It hurt
the suspension. I pitted and got back out, but that dropped us to fourth in the
championship. One podium will put us back into second though, so it's not
over yet."
